Larry Charles (Borat, Seinfeld) said this about Junglophilia, which was Best in Show on Shooting People in July 2009:

Dry, real, idiosyncratic, absurd, a spinal tap of performance art. An incredibly trenchant, microscopic portrait of the ultimate self-absorbed performer and it is shot in a claustrophobic style that really accentuates that. Amazing performances by the star and her supporting players.” — Larry Charles

We showed Junglophilia as part of the launch event for the Last Laugh scheme hosted by Warp X and Birds Eye View. It went down a treat!

We met Bobby Farrelly of the Farrelly Brothers (Dumb and Dumber, Something About Mary) at Dublin’s ‘Give Me Direction‘ Screenwriting conference, where both he and Jackal were speakers, and he imparted these amazing words of wisdom…

“To whom it may concern. Please (for the love of Art) do not make these lovely ladies water down their films, to make them more “vanilla”. Thanks for your co-operation.” - Bobby Farrelly

Ben Blaine of Charlie Productions and Shooting People blogged about our films; he also hosted our mini retrospective, Split Focus, at the BFI. He also gave LifeSpam a heads up! What a lovely man.

Another lovely man, our friend and talented screenwriter David Lemon wrote this about LifeSpam.

Rave reviews for Sticks & Balls include this from Boards upon its Cannes Lions screening:

By far the short that had earned the wildest audience reaction by the intermission point was Jacqueline Wright’s hilarious music video for actress Alice Lowe’s dead-on electroclash parody song, ‘Sticks & Balls’. Perhaps best described as ‘Miss Kitten goes golfing’, the film depicts a deadpan, pan-European spoken word vocalist named Kitty Litta. Covered in gold paint, she cavorts around a golf course and manages to find a sexual euphemism in every aspect of the sport. ‘Golf is like sex’, she repeats. ‘It’s sticks and balls.’

We did an interview with Submarine Channel about Sticks & Balls and doing Straight 8 films.

Alice did an interview for the Times about LifeSpam and other stuff:

You may not know Alice Lowe’s name, but if you don’t know the face you’ve clearly not been paying attention to quality comedy recently.” — Bruce Dessau

L.A. based Richard Metzger runs the fascinating Dangerous Minds blog and has continued to support our films with amazing reviews.

“These short films are a marvelous showcase for what she (and Wright) can do… I don’t think this was an easy—or quick—thing to pull off, twelve short films in one year, and that the quality was consistently very, very high is a testament to the talents of these two hard-working women. Obviously the reason to take on a workload like this is to be noticed professionally, and if there is any justice in the world, let’s hope the industrious Jackal partners are suitably rewarded with a BBC3 series commission in 2011 as well as an HBO or Showtime pilot over here.”

- Richard Metzger, Dangerous Minds

Paul Holmes (aka the amazing Sir Didymus!) has been so delightful in championing us on his brand new successful Boosh-based website, The Velvet Onion. He has written some great Jackal reviews, articles and done an interview with us. Their website has become a huge success and we are very lucky to be a part of it.

Claudia Schiepers is an amazing woman and the best souvenir we got from Cannes. She wrote a nice thing here.

Finally, we were proud to be a highlight of Toyah Wilcox’s review of 2009:

August saw the documentary ‘Junglophilia’ garnering much online attention…

Junglophilia is not actually a documentary, but thanks anyway Toyah fans! We love her too.
